Re: Preliminary proposal to create a W3C Note on WebID Definitions

Hello Melvin,

I’ve already stepped down in all but the formalities. However, leaving the group without a chair point-blank would be a rather distasteful move and, therefore, I will continue to *formally* chair until 2024-04-22 to support the eventual election of a new chair. As such, I do not feel it would be appropriate for me to act on behalf of the group in drafting a note (or anything else).

That said, I think that what you are proposing is absurd. These are the very definitions that are currently in the working draft. Instead of compromising, like everyone else in the group has found it in themselves to do, and supporting the group on its path towards a new ED based upon these very definitions, you’re proposing a note so abstract that it will never be of any practical use nor it will ever produce any of the outcomes you mentioned. Furthermore, these definitions have been agreed upon by the group *within the larger context of the specification itself*. I, for one, would never agree with publishing these on their own and I am extremely confident that the same applies to many others.

This is precisely why I decided to step down. I don’t have it in me to continue accommodating this kind of behavior. The current working draft meets your criteria of serialization neutrality and does so in a way that respects both the legacy of this group and the different sensibilities of its active participants, no matter how many times you’ve accused me of forking and railroading.

I hope, for the sake of this group, that you will find it in yourself to let the new chair carry it forward. I’m not going to argue any further, this will be my last message on this topic.

Best,
Jacopo.
