Chair's overview - 2024W13

Hello all,

Back with another “chair’s overview” - more about these in our CONTRIBUTING.md [1] file.

I’ve just merged PR #66 [2], which relaxed the requirement on Turtle to a SHOULD rather than a MUST, favoring orthogonality without forgetting about interoperability. Together with the new definitions brought in by PR #60 [3], this change finally addressed issue #3 [4] on the topic of serialization formats, the longest-standing issue we’ve ever had and, arguably, the most contentious.

As it always happens when unanimity cannot be achieved, a compromise had to be made, which in this case entailed maintaining a SHOULD on Turtle rather than eliminating any and all mentions of serialization formats from the draft. But, that’s how you move forward: by finding compromises that all parties consider acceptable while remaining open to changing one’s mind when further feedback comes in.

Priorities for the next week are all about reviewing “minor” PRs that take care of the remaining issues in our backlog:

- PR #67 [5], which replaces the use of URI with IRI

- PR #68 [6], which clarifies the diagram that illustrates the relationships between a WebID, the Agent it names and the corresponding Profile Document and decouples the conceptual overview from the real-life example based on TimBL’s card

- PR #69 [7], which renames “WebID Profile Document” to “WebID Document”

- PR #71 [8], which changes the title according to discussion in issue #37 [9] and issue #54 [10]

Have a lovely week!

Best,
Jacopo.
