research.webdevdata.org

Hi everyone,

I wanted to announce (and get your feedback on) a new little experiment I put up at http://research.webdevdata.org/ (repo at https://github.com/Webdevdata/research). The idea is basically to have a taggable, searchable repository of research related to web development. Right now it’s setup as a kind of social bookmarking thing (e.g. like del.icio.us). To get started, I’ve thrown in a few links that I had sitting around in open tabs and stuff.

The idea has been bouncing around in my head for awhile, and mostly came about because a) I’m always seeing links to fascinating, useful research; and b) I’m always completely forgetting what the research said and where to find it when it might actually come in handy. Having a go-to place to save, share, and reference data seemed super useful and inline with the webdevdata goals.

The stuff I've put up so far isn’t limited to one kind of research or data, or any one topic. There are surveys, journal publications, analytics, and even anecdotal data. There’s stuff on RWD, mobile usage, and accessibility. In the short term, I’ll probably just throw stuff up there as I come across it, with no real concerted effort at making it a robust collection. Feel free to sign up for an account and do the same. If you want to be an admin, just let me know.

This is just a first stab at getting something going, and I’d definitely like to hear any ideas you guys might have. Is it even a useful idea? Are there better ways to handle it?

Dave
