The browser could visit a URL that directly communicates the intention, and receive a streamlined challenge rather than having to load a bulkier login page. Interesting idea! What would prompt the browser to visit that URL though? For /.well-known/change-password, the user presumably interacts with their password manager in order to initiate that navigation.
