I recently learned that there were in-person discussions in Barcelona in which it was agreed that having an interface that sometimes leaves a promise data structure in place that will never be resolved is poor systems design.  (It's like a C program that calls malloc() creating data structures that will never be either free()d or used.)  I agree with this conclusion.
