Re: FW: Patent licensing and avoiding late Exclusions of Essential Claims in the WebApps WG

Dear all,

I am writing this mail as the Ericsson AC rep (we have asked ac-update@w3.org to change AC rep but the W3C data base has not yet been updated) in response to Charles McCathieNevile's question on this list regarding the two patents and the patent application that Ericsson has indicated can be relevant for the WebApps WG.

The patents and the applications and in particular the claims are drafted in is legal language and I don´t feel qualified to make very good summaries of the patents and application in normal technical language. However there is an abstract in each of the patents which is aimed to provide a general understanding. The patents are public so I include links to them where you can read the abstracts (and the full patents). The patent application should be published soon if it is not yet published. However, for your convenience I attach a file with the complete text. Hopefully reading the background and summary is enough to understand what it is all about.
