Re: [w3c/editing] IOS Safari: Ability to opt-out of Form assistant bar (which is useless for single-field editors and takes up a lot of space) (Issue #545)

Callisin left a comment (w3c/editing#545)

Adding a concrete affected use case: we have a web-based chat service with a single message input. In iPhone Safari, focusing it opens the form assistant bar even when both previous/next arrows are disabled. Together with Safari’s address UI and the keyboard, this leaves substantially less room to read the conversation while composing a reply.

We would welcome automatic collapsing when field navigation is unavailable, or a supported opt-out that preserves an accessible keyboard-dismiss control. A compact dismiss-only control would also help. This needs to work in Safari itself, without requiring a native app wrapper.

Public visual reference from the existing WebKit report (the reporter’s editor example, not our service):

Is there an update from the Safari team following the August discussion, or a preferred place for affected developers to provide additional evidence?
