It's spec compliant as it is, because Safari Desktop simply doesn't use the Cmd-B and Cmd-I combinations for making text italic or bold and the `formatBold` and `formatItalic` input types are correctly triggered when you make text bold/italic in other ways (top dropdown menu, I believe), according to the quick test @whsieh conducted during the meeting. The specs specifically allow for platform-specific behavior.

However, the web interface is not consistent with native Mac OS behavior in this regard. And Safari is also behaving differently from Chrome and Firefox.

Therefore the thing to do is to file a bug with WebKit asking to please add Cmd+B/Cmd+I for formatting on the web, but to formulate it as a "feature request" rather than a bug.
