This naming question was discussed again at the end of the [June WebEnginesHackfest session](https://github.com/Igalia/webengineshackfest/issues/54), and we resolved to just stick with `referencetarget`. See [notes](https://github.com/Igalia/webengineshackfest/wiki/2025-Cross%E2%80%90shadow-root-references-(referenceTarget)). Perhaps this Issue can be closed?
