Yeah, for this style scope thing to make sense, it needs an ability to inherit from another. Then each component can create its own scope which inherits from document's style scope to accomplish the "open style" mentioned in OP. But with such an API, a better / a more natural approach is for there to be a "base" style scope from which each component's style scope inherits.
