Cheat was probably the wrong word as it's perfectly normal for trusted libraries to hook into internals. Having read your post you haven't really written down any use cases other than asserting there might be scenarios similar to fetch in the future. I think that means we're still stuck on https://github.com/whatwg/streams/issues/1025#issuecomment-890945141.
