Looking at the thread, it's still not clear as to _why_ it was not adopted.  The original objection was around the automatic notification.  The reason for the consistent protest from web developers is that no counter proposal is being offered to address the very real need for awareness of whether or not the app has been installed.  As mentioned, this is vital in educating customers that they are looking at our apps that they can install and don't need to go to the app store.

Opposition to this proposal is not specifically being objected to.  Taking away this ability enabled by this specific implementation is.  Before mozilla and apple decide to kill this off, can we first get a counter proposal that addresses the prompting/user confusion concerns around BIP while maintaining our ability to educate our customers with badging?
