It doesn't really seem to me that cookies are beyond fixing. And web developers would be suited by incremental evolution of them (e.g., easier ways of clearing, truly origin-bound cookies, etc.). It's not really clear that reduction in size and no possibility for user-information in (these) headers is sufficient motivation for replacing them.
