You moved [my issue](https://github.com/whatwg/meta/issues/104) here, which seemed to make sense because the purpose was to get a human-friendly representation of the syntax into the documentation. The OP asked for an informative table of URL pieces. I've suggested including information about optionality, which requires following an algorithm, not just a list of parts. Is that an unwelcome divergence from the goal? Now, I apologize again for my lack of expertise in URL technology, but I don't understand enough to know if what you said about sections 4.3 and 4.4 answers my question. If my lack of experience makes my participation a drag, tell me and I'll go away.
