Sure! As I said, nothing about how the team works changes. The change is about using a different spec status (stylesheet) and allowing more participation.

Sure - it's literally just changing two properties in the ReSpec config. 

The thing that you do miss out on is that you won't benefit from automated IPR checks - because the IPR bot will be confused about which working/community group this is. So that's the only thing you need to do is make sure new participants sign the WICG IPR commitments. That's it :)
