A dictionary has predefined keys specified in WebIDL.
A colleague of mine in a similar discussion very long ago:

"Late binding is good. <other specification language> binds before compile time".

We can stick to DOMString and have the linkage in prose. No tool can check that we're doing it right, since there's no formal linkage.
We'll just have to trust the implementors.
