@marcoscaceres I don't suppose you could sum up this thread for anyone coming to it fresh?

As far as I'm aware, the inclusion of `service_worker` in the manifest would allow installation of a service worker without visiting the site, which would happen via installation from a "store" or sorts. I don't see this replacing other methods of service worker registration, and I think it's fine for browsers that don't support service worker to ignore it.

We're adding the ability to install a service worker via a link element/header (https://github.com/slightlyoff/ServiceWorker/pull/828), which could be part of the manifest response, although this is tricky for static hosts such as gh-pages.
