This is what it looks like in Chrome -- also broken, but in a different way. It marks both words individually, and the word "Maus" it just doesn't recognize. The word "Mexico" is recognized, at least if I put it somewhere else in the sentence. When I right-click on it, it doesn't give me any suggestions either. But the line is still there. My guess: The browser tries to be a little bit too smart here. It would be better if it lost some of that smartness and instead became more predictable. At least in contentEditable=Typing. ![mexico-maus-chrome](https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/595512/7803383/e7ad6514-031b-11e5-9d24-4073b759923c.png) --- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/w3c/editing-explainer/issues/50#issuecomment-105341000
