Introduction: Ganesh Ramanathan

Hi all,

I work for Siemens in the Smart Infrastructure division, where I have spent the last 25 years focusing on methods in engineering of automation systems.. As a late-life inspiration, I started my Ph.D. 2 years back at Uni St. Gallen, with Simon Mayer as my supervisor. My research topic is on achieving autonomous (therefore, adaptive) automation systems. This brought me in touch with multi-agent systems, which, together with the application of Semantic Web technologies, showed promising results in early experiments and opened new avenues for exploration. From the many interesting discussions with Andrei Ciortea, I am also inspired to explore Hypermedia MAS, which augments adaptivity with robustness.

My master's thesis in computer science (also a late-life expedition) was on the application of Web of Things (WoT) in building automation. It helped me contribute to one of the first adoption of WoT in industrial products at Siemens. This has enabled us to build software that can dynamically discover and interact with Things. My vision is to see autonomous agents understand engineering descriptions and automation strategies to figure out at run time the best way to control and coordinate the functioning of the systems.

I look forward to interacting with you, contributing to the community, and learning from your expertise.

Wish you all a nice weekend!

With best regards,

Ganesh
