Dear members, Welcome to the new Web Thing Protocol Community Group and thank you for your support in creating the group. *Group Information* You can view our Community Group page here <https://www.w3.org/community/web-thing-protocol/>, which includes a link to our current charter and details of mailing lists and IRC for communication. *Chair* I would like to put myself forward as Chair for the group so that we can get going right away. However, if there are any others who would like to put themselves forward for the position of Chair then please reply to this mailing list and we can trigger an election following the process described in the charter. Note that an election can also be triggered at any point in the future. *Charter* Following feedback in the WoT IG/WG call last week <https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wot-ig/2019Oct/0002.html> I have made a minor change in terminology to the charter <https://benfrancis.github.io/web-thing-protocol-charter/> to replace occurrences of the term "protocol binding" with the term "sub-protocol" for clarity. Otherwise, I expect this to be our charter going forward (unless any further issues <https://github.com/benfrancis/web-thing-protocol-charter/issues> arise). *GitHub* I have requested the creation of a GitHub repository to use for writing reports. I expect the next step to be defining use cases and requirements, before starting on a specification. I will report back here when a GitHub repository is set up and send out a call to collect use cases and requirements. *Communication* I have no immediate plans to schedule any conference calls or dedicated in-person meetups and expect the majority of collaboration in this group to be over GitHub, IRC and this mailing list. We can of course schedule calls as and when that becomes necessary. *Introductions* In the meantime, please feel free to introduce yourself to the group by replying to this email. I am Ben Francis, I work on Mozilla WebThings <https://iot.mozilla.org/wot/> at the Mozilla Corporation <https://www.mozilla.org> and am based in the UK. I look forward to working with you all! Regards Ben Francis
