Hi Adrian - always nice to hear from you ;)

i've seen that.  Yet, the Eddystone[1] project appears to [2] extend
traditional GPS into something that's tied into Google API's for Indoor
positioning systems [3] - without even considering the broader applications
of the tech.

A counter-argument could be that it's good to have a global gate-keeper -
but that's not how wifi works?

solution i'm hunting out looks like something that fits into the SoLiD[4]
which i'm augmenting somewhat with Manu's (/ our) Credentials concepts.
 therein making discovery available via linked-data. enabling access via
something like WebID-TLS or alternative, stored on LDP, by the purchaser /
owner of the device (ie; could be the home-owner or dog-owner)...
