Justin, A few comments/questions: Does "All W3C doc" search he entire W3C site for WAI and non-WAI docs? The description on the draft page does make this completely clear. Maybe it should read "... searches the entire W3C Web site, including the WAI (sub)site"? Otherwise the first 2 are ok for me. Email archive searching - is it possible just to search all the WAI related archives (eg all the w/pg and the IG archives)? Button - "search' is good for the button Field label - this is always cause for debate, but I would tend to recommend "search for:" or "search terms:" Search link in statics nav - "WAI site search" Should the search be included in the static nav? Yes - simple search at your finger/mouse-tips is good (and common). But, what we then call the link to the search.php page? Maybe, as we want folk to explore the site (at least initially while the redesign is new and we have all those great new intro pages) we should NOT put the search box on the home page. Cheers, Andrew -----Original Message----- From: public-wai-eo-site-request@w3.org [mailto:public-wai-eo-site-request@w3.org]On Behalf Of Justin Thorp Sent: Monday, 20 June 2005 9:16 AM To: public-wai-eo-site@w3.org Subject: wai search questions for tuesday meeting We currently have a functional search that gives the user the option of searching WAI or all of the W3C. http://www.w3.org/WAI/search.php It does a search of w3.org. The WAI specific search appends the WAI keyword onto the end of the search string. This takes minimal work to maintain and will include documents that are outside of w3.org/WAI (i.e. TR Documents & minutes). There are a couple of open issues with the user interface of the search. What should we call the labels on the search page? for the search options - *WAI Guidelines & Documents *All W3C Documents links to mail search - *W3C Mailing Lists Search *W3C Mailing Lists Advanced Search What should we use for the button & field labels on the search page? * button label: Go, Search, Search WAI, ...? * field label: Search:, Search for:, ...? What should the link be called in the static nav area? * WAI Site Search Should the search box go in the static navigation box?
