I guess I haven't articulated it well enough yet. So, one more try. This is what I mean, a regrouping of items from our Vision. Graphic Design * is welcoming, encourages visitors to use the site; draws people in - into the site, into WAI process, into Web accessibility * implements best practices: an inspiring model for graphic design/visual appeal, accessibility, usability, technology; is elegant, uncluttered * facilitates easy understanding of web accessibility issues; inspires confidence that people can "do" accessibility * fosters accessibility adoption and "evangelism"; increases positive attitudes towards accessibility; is inspiring Site Organization/Finding stuff... * "talks" to wide range of audiences, identifying needs and meeting needs * is seen as the definitive (re)source, authoritative, credible; comprehensive, yet not overwhelming We actually have more items identified relating to the look and graphic appeal than we do for site organization. This is directly from the Vision, just grouped to explain why I think we are compelled to attend to the issue. The list is 2-1 regarding graphically-enhanced design. If we are getting resistance on a more graphical design then maybe we need to educate whomever on the necessity of doing this. This has been part of the redesign project from the beginning. More importantly, it is an essential part of overcoming the negative myth of Accessibility design and, of critical importance, gaining compliance with W3C standards among designers and administrators as well. We need to convince people that you can look really good (the "Wow" factor) and be accessible at the same time. I am convinced that we will lose a very important battle globally for accessible web design in the development community and organizations generally if we let this opportunity pass. The last design submitted proves we can get the Wow-factor and do accessible design. I don't think I can say it more directly than that.
