I suspect it would be do-able to remove the “gratuitous” mentions of the Director in Process 2021 to have a cleaner baseline for the harder discussions of how to handle the Director roles that require an technical/strategic decision. From a comment by Dave in the PR discussion, I believe these mentions include:
>> remove cross-referential, gratuitous non-defining, mentions of the Director
>> change the simple cases where it’s described as the Director but actually the team (announces, mostly)
>> change the cases where it’s the CEO (discipline and management mostly)

I would indeed be happy to land these changes during the P2021 cycle. As you say, it'll make it easier for everybody to focus on the important issues about the Director. Also as an Editor, it will also make my life easier, as maintaining a "director free" branch up to date with the master branch is harder when there are (small) changes all over the place, as these tend to cause git conflicts that have to be resolved manually every time something changes on the main branch.
