RE: Is this CG still active?

Hi Leonie,
Thanks for checking on this. The Voice Interaction Community Group does have a wider remit than the way apps are developed. It is also concerned with inter-app communication and interoperable formats from app processing results so that back ends can expect uniform natural language processing results from different tools. We also planned to tackle possible standards for defining human-computer dialogs. Unfortunately, the group hasn't been very active. It hasn't made any real progress toward these goals although there have been a few interesting discussions on the mailing list. I would be interested in hearing from other members of the Voice Interaction CG, but I think that if the Voice Assistant Standardization CG has some energy and traction behind standardizing Voice Assistants, that might be a more effective route toward making a start on accomplishing these goals than the current group.
Best regards,
Deborah Dahl

Subject: Is this CG still active?

Deborah,

There was a recent discussion between several W3C member organisations, triggered by a suggestion from Terence Eden of HM Gov. The result was a new CG - the Voice Assistant Standardisation CG.
http://www.w3.org/community/voice-assistant/

Belatedly, we found this Voice Interaction CG, and now want to check that the new CG isn't going to cause confusion or duplicate the work already being done here.

The intent of the Voice Assistant Standardisation (VAS) CG is to look at the possibility of standardising the way apps (Skills etc.) are developed. Based on this and the description of the Voice Interaction
(VI) CG, it seems that this CG has a wider remit, encompassing the UX and interaction of VA apps etc.?

If you can let me know what you think, we can hold off spinning up activities in the VAS CG until we're sure there's no significant overlap.

Thanks.
Léonie.
