The marketCapitalization , aka 'market cap' should be in reference to an exact single day in time.  If this were Freebase, it would be a CVT file.

Market cap = [(# shares outstanding )  x  $ share price], at a specific day in time. This represents the value of the company, on that day, in the marketplace.

The market cap of a company changes daily not only because the 'stock price' fluctuates daily on the stock exchange , but also because companies issue 'new shares' all the time.
When employees exercise options, these options become shares, and the share count increases. Likewise, at any time, new shares can be issued as a public 'secondary offering' , as well as a 'private offering' to institutional investors.  Much of this goes unnoticed by the public until the quarterly financial filing for the company gets released. For a public company in the USA, the exact share count (on a precise date) is reported quarterly to the SEC in the company's 10-Q  financial filing, http://www.sec.gov/answers/form10q.htm  . The Market cap would be calculated using that share count and the closing price of the stock on that date.

In summary, the market cap needs to reference an exact date in time, and preferably match an SEC or comparable official financial document.
