(Thanks Eric, Thad for suggestions too) One might ask whether if https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solidarity_(Polish_trade_union) were not legally recognized by the 1980s communist regime, might they not count as a WorkersUnion? That seems counter-intuitive, so perhaps - "A Workers Union (aka...) is an organization that promotes the interests of its worker members by collectively bargaining with management, organizing, and political lobbying." (re looking for a qualifier on 'organization' to replace 'legally recognized', I was toying with 'civil society' but not sure what it adds; and it opens door to likely fruitless discussion of communist state structures) > That's succinct but also specific and captures the main activities of > unions.
