Sorry to be slow to pick up on this - I'm ploughing through e-mails received while on holiday... +1 to using Polyglot It's easy, especially if your starting point is a well-formed doc. See http://philarcher.org/diary/2011/polyglot/ (please don't worry about the charset stuff, I'm all UTF8 now) I believe our docs are likely to move to polyglot markup in the (not too distant) future.
