RE: ISSUE-2: What is the meaning of DNT (Do Not Track) header?

Hi Angelo,

The DNT header tells a server, at least one that is accessed as a third-party, not to track you, i.e. it should not retain any personal data about you, including your web history, unless it is for one of a few defined “permitted uses”. If the server tracks you for one or more of these uses it has declare that, and the retained data can only be used for that particular purpose. It must not use a unique identifier, such as a cookie UID or “browser fingerprint”, unless there is no other way to collect the data for the permitted use.

If your browser supports the DNT JavaScript API it can register when you give consent to individual servers, and indicate this to the server by always sending a particular variation of the DNT header. If your browser does not support it, the server can register your consent itself, but then it must respond in a defined and verifiable way.

It is a signal, and it is up to the receiving server whether it acts on it or not, but some browsers and browser extensions can enforce it.

Hope that helps.

Mike

Does "Do Not Track" mean that you are not keeping a record of your internet history? And when we "Clear" history is it truly cleared or is it still in our system history? Thank you, Angelo
