That is a personal opinion. Just as my take on backgrounds is a personal opinion. That's why having some data on readability is important. For what it is worth, in the example you cite, the outlined captions are way less easy to read for me than the captions that have a translucent background. Of course, that is just my personal take, but I am not alone in this. And there is also a difference between following a movie for two hours as compared to testing a static image. Loretta is right that having control is important. But having a default that causes eyestrain isn't a solution. Again, it would be great if we could choose a default based on hard data rather than just opinions. Christian
