Invitation survey on artificial intelligence and copyright in the creative sectors

Dear members of the Text and Data Mining Reservation Protocol Community Group,
I am writing this email to invite you to participate in a study on behalf of the European Commission (Directorate General CNECT) to investigate the challenges and uncertainties around copyright when artificial intelligence is used in the creative sector. Please find the endorsement letter signed by the European Commission in the following link: https://www.technopolis-group.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Letter-of-support_DG_CNECT_CR_and_NewTech-1.pdf

Research for this study includes a Delphi survey with industry stakeholders in the creative sector, artists, legal experts and other relevant actors. This survey aims to collect their views on the current copyright framework in situations such as the use of copyright-protected works to train artificial intelligence algorithms, or the use of artificial intelligence to generate output in the creative sector. Of course, reservation of TDM rights is one of the issues covered in the survey.
The survey contains two questionnaires in one. Based on the knowledge of the respondent on the topic of copyright, the questionnaire branches off into two paths: one for legal experts and another for stakeholders with less knowledge in IP law. The one for legal experts has the form of a Delphi survey with two rounds (an explanation of the concept of the Delphi survey is given in the introduction to the survey).
The link to the survey continues to be the following: https://technopolis.limequery.com/142659?lang=en

We also gladly invite you to distribute it to interested stakeholders in your network (e.g. peers, members of associations, etc.).
The answers will be analysed anonymously, and the results will be presented in aggregate form in the report of the study. They will enrich the discussion on different policy scenarios for tackling legal issues identified by the legal team working in this study. The report will be published by the European Commission.
Should you feel that you are not the right person to take part in this research, please do not hesitate to forward this email to another person in your professional circle or your organisation who could share relevant views and information.
Please do not hesitate to contact me in case of questions. I would be more than glad to answer them! Many thanks in advance and looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Dr. María del Carmen Calatrava Moreno
