*IEEE Granular Computing Conference Special Session*<http://www.cs.sjsu.edu/~grc/index.php> *Semantic Web Services: Theory and Applications **Atlanta**, **USA**, **May 10-12, 2006* *Call For Papers:* The semantic Web is seen as an extension of the WWW that focuses on adding semantics to descriptions of the resources on the Web. Semantic Web services extend the semantic Web by considering not only static resources but also Web services. Lately, in addition to the fundamental research in this area, there has been a growing focus on applying semantic Web services to diverse application domains such as biological and health informatics, grid, and mobile computing. In this special session, we invite original contributions in all areas of semantic Web services including their applications. Semantic Web services are in early phases of standardization. A number of specifications – OWL-S, WSMO, WSDL-S, and FLOWS have been submitted to W3C and two charters are currently being formed to investigate issues in this area. We are interested in papers which focus on these standardizations, suggesting improvements and extensions. Additionally, papers that provide insights into application of any of these specifications to real world problems are also solicited. In addition to these areas, we are interested in research around the different phases of the Web service and process lifecycle – annotation/representation, discovery, composition and execution using above mentioned specifications or other models, with the focus on solving real world problems. In addition, we solicit papers that focus on application of the semantic Web services to different domains. These domains include but are not limited to bioinformatics, health informatics, mobile computing, grid computing, and autonomic computing. We invite academic and industrial researchers and practitioners to submit original research papers as well as reports on work in progress in these areas. Suggested topics include but are not restricted to: · Formalisms for semantic Web services including description logics · Web service and process lifecycle: o annotation o representation o discovery o composition o execution · Semantic Web services architectures and standards · Applications of Semantic Web services o Bioinformatics o Health informatics o Grid computing o Mobile computing o Autonomic computing · Real World Use cases * * *Organizers: * Prashant Doshi, LSDIS Lab, University of Georgia Kunal Verma, LSDIS Lab, University of Georgia *Important Dates:* Paper Submission: Jan 25, 2006 Author Notification: Jan 31, 2006 Camera Ready: Feb 4, 2006 *Submission Instructions: * Please submit a full-length paper in PDF (the maximum number of pages is 6) with the standard two-column IEEE Transactions format<http://www.ieee.org/portal/site/mainsite/menuitem.818c0c39e85ef176fb2275875bac26c8/index.jsp?&pName=corp_level1&path=pubs/transactions&file=stylesheets.xml&xsl=generic.xsl>via Online Paper Submission<http://www.cs.gsu.edu/~grc06/SUBMISSIONS/index.php?authorsInstructions=1>system (please choose *Semantic Web Services: Theory and Applications* as major topic when submitting a paper to the special session). Alternatively, you can submit your papers by sending an email to Prashant Doshi: pdoshi@cs.uga.edu The accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Grc2006 conference proceedings. Information about the special session will be available via a link to the main conference site. The presentation slides will be posted on the web. At least one of authors of accepted papers must present their paper at the conference.
