October SWICG Call - Governance and Charters

Hi everyone,

Reminder that the monthly Social Web CG call is happening in a couple days,
this coming Friday Oct 4th at 1pm ET / 10am PT / 7pm CET (see calendar
entry at
https://www.w3.org/events/meetings/6b91f267-6cb4-41ca-9a67-5035cee827dd/20241004T130000/
)

The main topics on the agenda are - charter and governance proposals!

We've got several crucial proposals to discuss and evaluate, as a community.

1) CG Charter
We need a charter and governance document for this group here, the Social
Web CG!
(As mentioned in the "Restarting the Community Group Charter discussion"
thread at
https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-swicg/2024Sep/0048.html,
initial charter proposal PR at
https://github.com/swicg/potential-charters/pull/1 )

2) CG Work Item Staging Process
Similarly, we have the opportunity to join several of the leading W3C
groups in adopting a work item staging process (explicitly stating how
something goes from a proposal to something like a FEP to a possible CG or
Working Group item), based on the FedID CG/WG process (which itself was
based on WHATWG and Ecmascript's TC-39 process for JS language proposals).
Initial proposal PR at: https://github.com/swicg/potential-charters/pull/4

As always, the CG recognizes that not everyone is able to attend the
monthly calls, and any discussion of such important topics as group charter
will continue asynchronously on the mailing list and on GitHub. We want to
make sure everyone has a say in this process.

If there's time after the CG Charter and Work Item Process discussions, we
can also continue the conversation about potential future Working Group
charters
(see for example candidate proposals
https://github.com/swicg/potential-charters/pull/2 and
https://github.com/swicg/potential-charters/pull/3, as well as the Charter
Discussions on the wiki at
https://www.w3.org/wiki/SocialCG/WG_Charter_Discussion#Deliverables )

The ask: please read through the proposed charter PRs, and come with
questions and change suggestions.

Talk to you soon,

The Chairs
