As I sympathise with the schools of thought of permacomputing and the 
'convival tools' of Ivan Illich, I find ActivityPub and especially the 
prevailing implementation embarrassingly wasteful in terms of energy, 
memory and bandwidth. Frugality was apparently never a design goal.

However, it can be an intermediate step to something more reasonable.

I wonder how the recently started instances with their abundant tech 
stacks age during say 5 years.
