Hi all the RDFTM Task Force has the need to decide which formalism, if any, to use in order to describe the mapping rules that represent the most important piece of the guidelines. Lars Garshol's proposal is to use the Q model [1]. Even if I'm fine to the use of Q, I think we should first take in consideration the use of RDFS, OWl and Topic Maps profiles defined in ODM. I would be grateful to anyone who wants to give us feedback about the use of these two formalisms. We already had feedback from Patel-Schneider (please see [1,2,3,4,5,6,7]). I would like to add, with the hope of answering in part to Patel- Schneider, and of clarifying the approach of the TF that we are "not" trying (at the moment) to find a unified model for RDF and TM. Our aim is to work out a set of mapping rules which should help who wants to use TM and RDF in an interoperable way, to make it easier. By the way, we are going to propose a solution to the RDF/Topic Maps interoperability problem at the data level, that is the main goals are: - to be able to translate data from one form to the other without unacceptable loss of information or corruption of the semantics; - to be able to query the results of a translation in terms of the target model. The document will claim "only" that the guidelines it contains can be considered as best practices for that problem. There's a first draft for the document introduction where purposes and target audience are identified at [8]. Comments and suggestions are very welcome.
