In discussing alpha masks I raised the issue about using the child content as the mask source rather than relying on ID references.[1] This resulted in ISSUE-2431 ("Consider allowing <mask>, <clipPath>, etc. as direct children of elements they'd apply to, to avoid IDs") and ACTION-3205 which I have since completed.[2] There seems to be general support of the idea although Cyril raised the idea of changing the direction of relationship.[3] Regardless of the specific solution, I'd like to add this to list of requirements for SVG 2. Please add this request to the agenda for tomorrow's telcon.
