Hi WG, As per my action ACTION-1928 [1] I've investigated the comments made by Kalle on fonts-elem-05-t [2]. Here are my findings. What Kalle said about text advancement in his email is correct. Regarding the test it appeared to be testing horiz-origin-x attribute of the font element. I've made fixes to the test as it was not clear what was a pass or fail. The text "horiz-adv-x=1000 but ignored" was bogus and changed to "horiz-origin-x=1000". I've added a clear description to the test and set its status back to "created". Additionally I've created a new reference image for it. If we have time can we review the test please so I can make any further changes if need be. This closes my action. Thanks, Anthony [1] http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/Group/track/actions/1928 [2] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-svg/2008Mar/0080.html -------- Original Message -------- Subject: SVGt 1.2 Tests: Rationale of fonts-elem-05-t Resent-Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2008 13:37:01 +0000 Resent-From: www-svg@w3.org Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2008 14:33:40 +0100 From: Kalle Raita <kraita@nvidia.com> To: <www-svg@w3.org> Hi All, Could someone explain the rationale behind the test fonts-elem-05-t, please. The test sets different values for horiz-origin-x of font. As far as I see, this the only difference between the three rows in the test. According to the spec the horiz-origin-x coordinate in the glyph space should be aligned with the current text position. If the x coordinate of the origin is increased, I'd expect the glyphs move left in the rendered results as the origin moves right in the glyph space. I'm assuming two things: 1) The x coordinate increases to right and 2) the horiz-origin-x is not added to the coordinates provided in the glyps. (See E.g. http://www.w3.org/TR/SVGMobile12/text.html#CurrentTextPosition and http://www.w3.org/TR/SVGMobile12/fonts.html#FontElement) The weird part is that the reference image shows no change between the rows and the checking aids hint that the writer of the test expects the glyphs move right. Also, the last line has explanation "horiz-adv-x=1000 but ignored", which makes absolutely no sense to me. Any and all insights appreciated.
