I'm surprised, but curious which reasons you'd still accept.

My understanding is that `defs` might be treated as objects of the same kind, which would make rendering less performance -consuming and more fluid in the clients' browsers if animated. It might be wrong or dependent on the browsers. Your paragraph looks also a bit contradicting to me, but perhaps you've more details.

Well, that might be true, but the spec isn't about the processes. Of course it's good sorting wrong arguments out though.
