AmeliaBR has just labeled an issue for https://github.com/w3c/svgwg as "Text chapter": == Support background-color on SVG text == Browsers already support background color on SVG text spans for selection highlighting, at least with default styles. Chrome supports it (sort-of, it's buggy) as part of custom `::selection` styles (https://codepen.io/AmeliaBR/pen/VqMrPV). Especially as we adopt more complex text layout (in SVG Next, not suggesting this for 2.0), having proper customizable selection and highlight styles is essential.
