> What about a talon-shape, where the curve backtracks. At the exact point of tangent, there is no obvious directionality: incoming and outgoing paths cancel out. Maybe not obvious, but I think that natural tendency of people would be to follow the outside of the shape. So you would turn away from the last point you were at, and towards the next point.
