Re: Chairs election

Hi Jeff,

I think we previously used different words, so I’ll clarify that for me client-to-client means that two apps using the same user data can understand each other ( and the Solid Chat spec is a good example of that ) .

My background is mostly on the server side rather than as an app or domain spec author, so I tend to see it through this lens. I believe it's important that the CG help put the right tools in place so that creating and adopting c2c specs is as frictionless as possible. I’m thinking of Type Index and SAI, but also the spec catalogue and the shape repository.

Type Index is a straightforward and very approachable mechanism, which I think is very valuable given the current state of the community ( if I were a newcomer building ,for example, a recipe app, I could quickly get that "ta-dah" moment where my app stores data that I can also see with Soukai ) . But it has some limitations ( needs careful client implementation, public/private split, not clear how the data is stored ), and SAI seems to be a promising next step to address those concerns. The catalogue and the shape repo on their side help people converge on shared specs and discover who else is working on similar domains, which is also paramont if we don't want people building shapes on their own.

As co-chair, I think my experience implementing CSS components can help support the development of these tools, Lastly but certainly not least, I think it is important for the co-chair to connect, facilitate, and coordinate people who want to work on shared specs for their domains.

Bests,

In my mind the most important issue for the CG to tackle is the creation of client-to-client specifications such as the one TimBL has created for chat. These are a fundamental part of the interoperability of the Solid ecosystem and are connected with the development of shapes for various domains.
