Re: A quick proposal on our group's chairs

Yes - this is already follows from the following line in the charter:

If, at the end of nominations, any given seat only has a single candidate, that candidate immediately wins that seat. For any seats with multiple nominees, there will be an election for those seats.

Melvin,

Chair terms to not necessarily expire in December. The current CG charter<https://www.w3.org/community/solid/charter/> appoints chairs for a 2 year service and the current chairs were appointed at different points in time. elf Pavlik was appointed last December so has one year of his term remaining.

I suggest the CG continues to follow due process for elections - and should not in any way be affected by the Linked Web Storage (LWS) Working Group.

I believe (though have not confirmed) that Hadrian and Michiel have only been in place for one term; meaning they would be able to stand for re-election.

See this email for history on when staggered elections were agreed [1].

How about we keep it simple: if at most two people self-nominate for the two chair seats, we confirm by acclamation, unless someone objects.

If we have more nominees than seats, we run an election.

Subject: A quick proposal on our group's chairs

Hi all,

A tiny housekeeping note as we head toward December: chair terms would normally expire. Given the good progress in the Linked Web Storage Working Group (originally the Solid WG), I love us to keep the current chairs on for one more year, assuming they’re willing. I feel the current group has worked really well together, and would be a big help to us to get the work over the line as a W3C Recommendation.

If that sounds sensible or If you have concerns, please say. Hopefully we can maintain the good momentum and see Solid become a W3C Recommendation next year.

Best!
Melvin
