[smart-cities] minutes - 26 May 2025

available at:
  https://www.w3.org/2025/05/26-smart-cities-minutes.html

also as text below.

Please note that we'd like to shift the date of the next IG call from
June 23 to another day because many of the key participants have
conflict with that day.

To identify a better date, I've created a Doodle poll at:
  https://doodle.com/group-poll/participate/egMExmZb

Please respond to the above Doodle poll and let us know about your
availability.

Thanks,

Kazuyuki

Meeting minutes

  Logistics

Koster: we have several guests today
¡K would make sense to ask them to introduce themselves
¡K (asks Torbjorn and Mark to introduce themselves)

   Torbjorn: (gives his self intro)

Koster: happy to have you here

   Torbjorn: happy to be here

Mark: (also gives his self intro)

Koster: sounds like we can have good discussion later :)

   Kaz: Frederick is also new

   Frederick: (gives his intro too)

Koster: let's make sure all the information is public
¡K the IG is gathering resources on smart cities now
   ¡K aob?

Kaz: just to make sure, we have a dedicate section during this
   call for discussion

  Minutes

   [9]April-28

      [9] https://www.w3.org/2025/04/28-smart-cities-minutes.html

   Koster: (goes through the minutes)

Linda: no comments on the minutes themselves
¡K but wondering about the OGC section within resources.md
¡K would be OK if I add some more updates?

   Kaz: sure
   ¡K really appreciated

   Koster: ok
¡K no updates needed, so the minutes are approved

   Koster: no remaining PRs today

   [11]resources.md

Koster: we're collecting information on the resources.md
   ¡K any specific comments?

   (none)

  Discussion

   [12]resources.md

     [12] https://github.com/w3c/smart-cities/blob/main/resources.md

Koster: we're trying to edit resources.md to collect
   information

Torbjorn: one of the challenges was matter of understanding
¡K which standards to be used by whom
¡K W3C standards to be referred to from other standards
¡K we can have a list
¡K what to be done as the next step is also interesting

   [13]Smart Cities IG Charter

     [13] https://www.w3.org/2024/06/smart-cities/

Kaz: survey on existing standards by related SDOs first, and
then clarify what to be done for the next steps. would have
   discussion with you all today

   Koster: cross referencing is interesting
¡K so it's useful to ask questions
¡K at this moment, it's just a list
¡K figure out how to organize the indexing, etc. to be discussed

   Mark: would suggest something
¡K there are many different kinds of standards generated by
   various SDOs
¡K should have some categories and matrix for measurement
¡K and then as Michael suggested, we should try deep diving and
   think about proper indexing

   Kaz: agree
¡K started to work on tech categories also

   [14]technology-categories.md

     [14] https://github.com/w3c/smart-cities/blob/main/technology-categories.md

   Kaz: but still struggling

   Mark: what about ontology standardization

   Kaz: agree
¡K personally interested in ontology standardization and
Web-based framework as the basic categories

   Frederick: specific generic types there
¡K and we can map custom domains from W3C
   ¡K 150 different ontologies already
¡K happy to help you categorize them

   Kaz: tx!

Torbjorn: in ISO/IEC, we have some incorporated pattern
¡K to see how standards are related to each other
¡K could be worked with W3C as well
¡K should work with each other more deeply
¡K overview of what's missing for smart cities
¡K trying to clarify the crucial points

   Kaz: +1
¡K is there any existing resources?

Torbjorn: we can influence to W3C about that
¡K within ISO/IEC, starting some work
¡K starting JTC4 for smart cities
   ¡K probably decided soon

Koster: ok. let's keep the discussion ongoing

Linda: the list is already big
¡K and would be great if we could choose what is needed
¡K for digital twin and smart cities applications
¡K would be a good outcome

   Kaz: right

Mark: this issue is related to all the standards
¡K started to address technical issues
¡K may I share my screen?

   Kaz: sure

Mark: we're creating a Web page about resources
¡K still no title added, though

     [17] http://citydatastandard.org/index.php/Organization

Mark: happy to expose some of the information from this
¡K a lot of work to relate different classes with each other
¡K asking the students to handle it so far
   ¡K but it's a lot of effort
¡K but can expose some of them

   Kaz: yes
¡K this is very useful and important
¡K would be great if we could add a reference from our document

   Koster: right
¡K getting metadata is one of the problems

Kaz: btw, is it OK to add the links in the minutes from this
   call?

   Mark: sure

   Kaz: tx!

Frederick: we have cross reference also
   ¡K search for standards
   ¡K public viewing of it
¡K we could literary cross reference the text search
   ¡K super classes, etc., too

Mark: would love to try it out

Frederick: would set up a quick demo for that

   Koster: would be great

Kaz: is that public at the moment?

Frederick: it's now scaling in production

Koster: yeah, would see the demo

  Next call

Kaz: next monthly call on June 23
¡K Frederick, do you think you can make your demo on that day?

   Frederick: sure

   Torbjorn: holiday in Sweden

Mark: will be in Beijing, but would make it

Linda: conflicting meeting on that day

Koster: maybe we can reschedule the meeting then

   Kaz: right
¡K can generate a doodle poll for that purpose

   Koster: let's do that!
   ¡K any other business?

   (none)
