XR SubGroup Meeting - 13th July 2020

A reminder that the XR SubGroup will be meeting today at 09:00 Boston time (2pm UK Time).

Joining instructions are available in the link below

The main thing we will be looking at today is the move from User Needs to Functional Outcomes.

An initial draft of functional outcomes based on our previous User Needs statements is below. This will form the basis of discussion and these are, as always, in a very rough draft format. Please suggest alterations/amendments/deletions as appropriate.

  * Auditory information, including speech and key sound effects, are translated into alternative formats (e.g. captions) so media can be consumed when sound is unavailable or limited
  * Auditory meta-information, including sound directionality, is conveyed to the viewer to that contextual information is available when sound is unavailable or limited
  * Captions and caption meta-data are capable of being presented in alternative methods (e.g. second screen) to make the information more accessible when visual access is unavailable
  * Customisation of caption style and position is available to support users that would benefit from tailored presentation options
  * The amount of time that a given caption (and associated meta-data) spends on screen can be personalised in order to give additional ability to locate the sound that is being presented

Kind Regards

Mike
