Join us in Paris!!! Kindly forward to interested parties! Websites: WebScience 2013: http://www.websci13.org Life Web Science Workshop: http://www.websci13.org/workshops/wk9-life-web-science-workshop/ Life Web Science Workshop The workshop will host a debate and discussion on the future, framework and opportunities of a Health Web Observatory. In addition there will be a call for papers. A half day work shop at ACM Web Science 2013 - 5/5/13 Paris The scope of Life Sciences includes the disciplines of Health and Environmental Sciences and their many sub-disciplines. Although the specialisms included under the umbrella of Life Science are broad, the problems facing these many environmental and health based sciences are common among them. Problems that Life Science fields currently face include and are not limited to: cross disciplinary study, taxonomy, big data, education and engagement. Life Web Science aims to leverage the Web not only for new scientific discoveries, but also for solving problems of cross disciplinary study, taxonomy, and education as it relates to the Life Sciences as well as laying the foundations for understanding how the Web is used in health and wellbeing, and using this knowledge to address the regional, national, and global problems facing the ability to achieve and maintain good health. Health Web Science studies the Web and Internet-based technologies, and how their emergent properties can benefit society in the area of human health. Furthermore, the discipline seeks to document, understand and provide theories of the structures of how humans (health professionals, patients, communities) co-create and engage with the emergent health ecosystem within which they live. This workshop will continue to lay the foundation for Health Web Science and build upon the success of the two previous workshops of 2011 and 2012. It will continue to develop a community of practice in this field and provide a platform for collaboration. Workshop Content: Health Web Observatory Debate A multi-disciplinary panel will discuss the requirements of a Health Web Observatory as well as the underlying frameworks, research methods and opportunities it presents. The panel will include speakers from National Health Service (UK), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA) and the University of the Highlands and Islands (UK). There will be an opportunity for wider debate after initial position statements have been made. Review of Health Web Science Literature Individual papers on such themes as: Engaging individuals in services provided via the web. Personalization of Applications and data input via the web. Engaging communities in services and as communities on the web. Health Web Services and Semantics. Techniques and Research methodologies for measuring healthcare quality. Future directions of Health services using the Web from an engineering and synthesis perspective. Examples of problems in cross disciplinary study Taxonomy Education Example problems and potential solutions in health-ethics/bioethics. Big data and its management Workshop Organisers: Prof. Grant Cumming, MBChB, MD, FRCOG. Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist NHS, UK Dr. Joanne S.
