ontology developer position available

The Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Texas 
Southwestern Medical Center seeks a research scientist to lead development 
of a Staphylococcus aureus Infectious Disease Ontology (IDO-Sa) and to 
collaborate in innovative application of the ontology to the management 
and analysis of data relevant to S.a. infection.  Development of IDO-Sa is 
proceeding as part of an NIAID-funded project (1) to develop an ontology 
of host-pathogen interactions in the context of S.a. infection and (2) to 
apply the ontology to the analysis of genomic and functional genomic data 
for the prediction of genes conferring host susceptibility to S.a.  The 
ontology is being developed within the Infectious Disease Ontology 
Initiative (www.infectiousdiseaseontology.org).  This is a 
multi-disciplinary project involving collaboration between clinicians, 
experimentalists, philosophers, computer scientists, and computational 
biologists.  The project is an integral part of a larger program to 
develop computational methods for the study of host-pathogen interactions. 
 A PhD or MD is expected.  Candidates with a background in microbiology, 
immunology, or infectious diseases are strongly preferred.  No experience 
with computational methods or ontology is required.
