Re: cell types, brain regions mentioned in gensat

It's really even more subtle than what Gwen is referring to.

A significant amount of research is being done using VERY SIMILAR  
recombinant inbred strains (all derived from the mus musculus  
musculus x mus musculus domesticus derived C57Bl/6), where just a  
single QTL (some times mapped to a few SNPs) lead to significant  
differences in the volume, shape, cell density, or cell type of very  
specific brain regions.  And that is just addressing genetically  
proscribed effects on cell type and region size/shape.  It doesn't  
begin to address "environment" which includes - amongst other things  
- all the sorts of experimental treatments used to collect data  
according to the broad spectrum of neuroanatomical experimental  
design paradigms in use.

Having said that, this is NOT an intractable problem - not even the  
cross-species issue.  It is simply not a problem that can be  
addressed with simple term-based matching - and one that requires a  
considerably amount of neuroanatomical expertise to address - that's  
all.
