Introduction: Glynis Laing, Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA

Hello, All, It's great to see so much interest in a medical area! I am
Glynis Laing, the manager of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery
Research at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Yes, I work
with Chimezie Ogbuji and I see him daily. My interest comes from the
medical research side and a need to combine multiple sources of data
into an usable system for medical research. The areas that I manage,
commercial clinical trials, internally funded clinical studies and the
cardiovascular information registry, are all very active in clinical
research. We run about 200 studies at any given time and publish more
than 120 peer-reviewed articles a year.

I am a registered nurse with a PhD. I am a clinical person who has the
perspective of the needs on the medical side for the things that this
group does on the technical side. I come from a strong quality
background which is a huge issue in health care today--we need to be
able to measure that we "do good." So we are all treading in a new
world--how awesome is that!! Glynis
