I agree there are potential issues with track compatibility, but I don't think we yet have enough information to resolve them concretely. It depends on developer feedback and implementation experience. I can provide some insight into the latter based on what Chrome has shipped, but not sure when I can get to it. If the concern is interoperability, then there's a fairly small set of implementations we would be extrapolating future interoperability from.
