Closing of SDWIG and joining the Working Group

Dear SDW-ers,

As you may have noticed, the Spatial Data on the Web Interest Group has closed and at the same time the SDWWG, the Working Group, has been reopened. I know that some of you (including myself) have received messages that you no longer represent your organization in the Spatial Data on the Web Interest Group. This is because of the closing of the group.

We encourage all of you to join the Working Group and continue our mission of developing and maintaining vocabularies and best practices that encourage better sharing of spatial data on the Web; and identifying areas where standards should be developed jointly by both W3C and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).

Jeremy and I are continuing on as chairs; Bert Bos is our new W3C Team contact.

Information on joining is on the joining instructions page[1].

If your organization is not a W3C member but is an OGC member, you can either

- request to participate as an Invited Expert (instructions are on the same joining page). W3C staff will to verify that they have the right to join, which may take a few days.

- join via OGC: contact the OGC representative for W3C, Ingo Simonis <isimonis@opengeospatial.org<mailto:isimonis@opengeospatial.org>>, and he can add you directly to the WG.

- join the WG's mailing list. To subscribe to the list, without becoming a member of the group, you can use the 'subscribe'

button on the archive page[2].

(If that button doesn't work, there is more information available on https://www.w3.org/Mail/ )

More information about the group can be found on the group home page[3].

We may close public-sdwig@w3.org<mailto:public-sdwig@w3.org> eventually, but for now it is still open. All the people who were in the IG are still subscribed to the mailing list, but you can unsubscribe if you want to. (There is a button on the archive[4] that sends an 'unsubscribe' message.)

We hope to see you in the working group soon! We will continue on with our regular plenary call as usual.

Linda
